September 5th, 2014

A talented list of just seven three-year-old fillies remain in contention for this weekend’s Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick, offering punters exceptional value from a betting point of view and several key opportunities to place a winning bet.

Having registered an exceptional maiden racing preparation through the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Earthquake has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in the 2014 Furious Stakes, currently available at odds of $1.75 for success, ahead of Peggy Jean ($5), Memorial ($7) and Winx ($8) at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Earthquake register a first-up win in the 2014 Furious Stakes, or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Earthquake ($1.75)

While returning on what will likely be a less-than ideal running surface at Randwick this weekend, to form and results produced by Earthquake over her maiden preparation deem is close to impossible to tip against another impressive race win. More than stamping her claims as a serious contender when taking out her debut race by three lengths, the Exceed And Excel filly continued to impress when charging home to win the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 8th before breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) a fortnight later. Continuing her perfect run through the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) before finishing second in the Golden Slipper, Earthquake will leave from the ideal barrier 3 this weekend and is a great chance of success.

2nd

Peggy Jean ($5)

The other only runner confirmed in the 2014 Furious Stakes to have taken out a Group 1 event, Peggy Jean is likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 4, and is arguably the best chance of upsetting Earthquake this weekend, particularly with in-form jockey Blake Shinn on board. Finishing outside the places just once over six starts so far, the Myboycharlie filly steadily built to the task over three minor starts before stamping her arrival when second in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) on March 29th; charging home to win the Group 1 ATC Sire’s Produce Stakes (1400m) a fortnight later. Yet to experience much more than a sprinkling of wagers for success in 2014 Furious Stakes betting markets, Peggy Jean offers good value at $5 odds.

3rd

Alpha Miss ($21)

Without doubt offers punters the best value for money at current $21 odds for success of $7.60 to run a place in the 2014 Furious Stakes, Alpha Miss was the fairy-tale story of the 2014 autumn two-year-old season, purchased for just $6000 and already delivering her connections close to a quarter of a million dollars in prize money. Winning each of her first two starts including the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) on debut, the Lucky Owners filly continued to impress in winning the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) on March 8th; arguably securing her most impressive result when third in the Reisling Stakes. Finishing a fighting fourth in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up on August 23rd, trainer Gary Nickson is confident barrier 5 offers Alpha Miss the ideal starting point, who is more than worth consideration for a 2014 Furious Stakes bet.
