A total of fifteen runners have been included in nominations for Saturday’s Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the pending appearance of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting three-year-old fillies.
Look To The Stars announced herself as a serious racing prospect for Clarry Conners through the recent Brisbane Winter Carnival, and has been included in nominations for a racing return in the 2015 Furious Stakes.
Returning for a brief spell following a credible run for fifth in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) on March 14th, Look To The Stars arrived in Queensland for fourth in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Plate (1200m), and while unable to figure when tenth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m), responded in the best way possible when taking out the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) a fortnight later.
Having returned to the paddock after placing third in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 6th, the I Am Invincible filly is more than a chance of success on Saturday if allocated a favourable barrier at Wednesday gate draw.
Petits Filous is yet to taste anything but success through her short but impressive career start, but will undoubtedly face her toughest task to date on Saturday after being included in 2015 Furious Stakes nominations.
Taking out a pair of minor Moonee Valley sprints upon debuting in July, the Street Boss filly made a successful transition to black type racing when taking out the Group 3 Quezette Stakes last time out on August 15th.
Gai Waterhouse appears set to launch a multi-pronged attack on the 2015 Furious Stakes after including four runners in nominations, including English and Speak Fondly.
A strong and consistent performer for Waterhouse through autumn, English won a Kembla Grange Sprint on debut before taking out the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) on March 7th.
Producing an impressive final straight sprint to finish second in the major Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), the Encosta De Lago filly has not been seen at the races since failing to handle the late pace and sixth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Day 1 of The Championships.
Speak Fondly has finished outside the first three only once in five starts and will carrying winning form into the 2015 Furious Stakes after taking out the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up a fortnight ago.
Placing third in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) on debut in October, the Northern Meteor filly returned this year for second in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) and success in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m), but failed to fire when eleventh in the Golden Slipper.
The 2015 Furious Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
