Ten three-year-old fillies have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting racing prospects.
Lake Geneva is yet to finish outside the first three through her short but impressive racing career, and will need some luck in running if to continue the trend through the 2015 Furious Stakes from barrier 9.
Debuting for a close second in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m), Lake Geneva more than stamped her claims as one to watch when boxing on for third in each of the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m); returning to the paddock after again finishing third in the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships.
Returning this time for success in a Hawkesbury minor over 1000m, the Fastnet Rock filly finished third in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) on August 22nd.
Gai Waterhouse is set to launch a two-pronged attack on the 2015 Furious Stakes after confirmed both English and Speak Fondly in nominations.
Winning a Kembla Grange minor over 1000m on debut by close to four lengths, English made a successful transition to black type racing in taking out the talent-rich Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) on March 7th; progressing to a close second behind stable mate Vancouver in the Golden Slipper.
While unable to match the late pace when sixth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) last time out on April 6th, English has trialled well in the lead-up to her racing return and will be partnered by leading hoop Blake Shinn.
Speak Fondly drastically cut in Golden Rose betting markets following her impressive first-up win in the Silver Shadow Stakes, and is a leading chance for success in the Furious Stakes from barrier 5.
Returning this year for second in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m), the Northern Meteor filly charged home to take out the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) but failed to fire in the Golden Slipper.
Look To The Stars stamped her claims as one to watch through the recent Brisbane Winter Carnival and could very well receive the run of the race on Saturday from barrier 2.
Running fourth in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial (1200m) first-up on April 25th, the I Am Invincible filly failed to fire in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) but responded well in taking out the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) and finishing third in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m).
